Here comes the bride…and the groom! And the parents! And the sister! And the ex-boyfriend! And literally everyone else! The new Broadway musical It Shoulda Been You opens officially at the Brooks Atkinson on April 14. Tony winner David Hyde Pierce directs. In honor of the show’s big night, Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson created this portrait of the wacky bunch.
The whole wedding party is present! With David Burtka and Sierra Boggess front and center as newlyweds-to-be Brian and Rebecca, the sketch includes Lisa Howard as Rebecca’s sister Jenny, Tyne Daly and Chip Zien as parents of the bride Judy and Murray, Harriet Harris and Michael X. Martin as Brian’s parents Georgette and George (no, really), Nick Spangler and Montego Glover as Greg and Annie, Josh Grisetti as Rebecca’s old flame Marty, along with Edward Hibbert, Adam Heller and Anne L. Nathan as wedding planning team Albert, Walt and Mimsy, respectively.
Happy opening/wedding day to the cast of It Shoulda Been You. Have a gay ol’ time!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
